Breach of Trust: Gujarat Health Worker Caught Spying for Pakistan.

In May 2025, Indian authorities arrested a 28-year-old health worker, Sahdev Singh Gohil, from Gujarat's Kutch district on charges of espionage for Pakistan. This case has raised significant concerns about national security, especially regarding vulnerabilities in sensitive border regions. Sahdev Singh Gohil, employed as a multipurpose health worker in Lakhpat taluka, Kutch, came under the radar of the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) for allegedly sharing sensitive information with a Pakistani intelligence operative. Investigations revealed that Gohil had been in contact with a person using the alias "Aditi Bharadwaj" on WhatsApp since June 2023. This individual was later identified as a Pakistani agent. Gohil reportedly sent photographs and videos of Border Security Force (BSF) and Indian Navy installations, including sites under construction, to the agent. Additionally, in January 2025, he facilitated the operation of a WhatsApp number by sharing a One-Time Password (OTP) linked to an Indian SIM card, which was later found to be operated from Pakistan. In exchange for this information, Gohil received ₹40,000 in cash from an unidentified individual. He has been charged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 61 and 148 for criminal conspiracy and waging war against the government. This incident underscores the persistent threat of espionage activities targeting India's defense establishments. the use of social engineering tactics, such as establishing contact through social media platforms, highlights the evolving methods employed by foreign intelligence agencies to gather sensitive information. the arrest of Gohil is not an isolated event. It marks the third espionage-related arrest in Gujarat's coastal districts since October of the previous year, indicating a troubling pattern of security breaches in strategically significant areas. the arrest comes amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. Earlier in May 2025, Indian border security forces shot and killed a Pakistani national attempting to cross the international frontier into Gujarat's Banaskantha district. This incident followed a four-day conflict between the two nations, resulting in over 70 deaths before a ceasefire was established. Additionally, Indian security agencies have recently uncovered a significant espionage network allegedly operated by Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Thirteen individuals, including a businessman, a YouTuber, and a student, have been arrested across various states for roles ranging from spying to facilitating cross-border smuggling. the arrest of Sahdev Singh Gohil highlights the ongoing challenges India faces in safeguarding its national security.
