The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two individuals in Uttar Pradesh for their involvement in a bribery case. Nishan Singh Malli, a Superintendent with the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Department, posted in Gajrola with additional charge of Amroha, and Amit Khandelwal, a tax advocate, were apprehended while accepting a bribe of ₹1 lakh. This amount was the first installment of a ₹4 lakh bribe demanded to waive a penalty imposed on a private company for non filing of GST returns. The businessman managing the company, unwilling to comply, approached the CBI, leading to the arrests during a trap operation. The CBI's action underscores its commitment to combating corruption within the tax administration. The investigation is ongoing to uncover further details related to the case.
