Dehradun, June 8, 2025 — In a historic stride for Indian winter sports, the country witnessed the launch of its first-ever National Ice Hockey Championship today at the international-standard ice rink in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. This milestone event marks a significant leap in India’s ambition to diversify its sporting identity beyond cricket and traditional summer sports. the championship, which will run until June 17, features 21 teams across men’s, women’s, and under-18 divisions, drawing participation from icy Himalayan states like Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, and even newer entrants from the North East and Southern India.
