In a significant leap towards modernization and technological integration, Indian Railways has initiated the use of drones for cleaning train coaches and station premises. This innovative approach was first implemented at Assam's Kamakhya Railway Station by the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), marking a pioneering step in railway maintenance practices. On April 22, 2025, the NFR conducted its first-ever drone-based cleaning operation at Kamakhya Railway Station. This pilot project aimed to assess the feasibility and effectiveness of using drones for cleaning high-rise and hard-to-reach areas within the station premises and on train coaches. According to Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer of NFR, the operation targeted specific areas including the Kamakhya coaching depot sick line, under-floor wheel lathe shed, the exterior dome portion of the station, and several train coaches. The demonstration showcased the potential of drone technology in enhancing cleanliness and hygiene by efficiently accessing difficult-to-reach areas . The integration of drone technology into cleaning operations offers several notable benefits: 1.
