Kunju Sahib, who was serving as the Finance Minister of Kerala at that time. the primary objectives were to generate revenue for the state and provide a stable source of income to the marginalized sections of society. the first lottery ticket was released on November 1, 1967, priced at ₹1, with a first prize of ₹50,000. the inaugural draw took place on January 26, 1968. the Kerala State Lotteries operates legally under the Lotteries (Regulation) Act, 1998, which allows state governments to organize and regulate lotteries. the program is managed by the Department of State Lotteries, a division of the Kerala government's Taxes Department. How It Works? the Kerala State Lotteries offers a range of weekly and bumper lotteries: Weekly Lotteries: Conducted daily, each with a first prize of ₹70 lakh to ₹1 crore. Examples include Win Win, Sthree Sakthi, Fifty Fifty, Karunya Plus, Nirmal, Karunya, and Akshaya. Bumper Lotteries: Held during festivals and special occasions, offering substantial prizes. Notable ones include the Christmas New Year Bumper (₹20 crore), Summer Bumper (₹10 crore), Vishu Bumper (₹12 crore), Monsoon Bumper (₹10 crore), Thiruvonam Bumper (₹25 crore), and Pooja Bumper (₹12 crore). Draws are conducted at 3:00 PM daily at Gorky Bhavan, Thiruvananthapuram, and results are published on the official website and in the Kerala Government Gazette. Winners must claim their prizes within 30 days of the draw date. Legal Status and Continuation the Kerala State Lotteries operates legally under the Indian Constitution, which allows state governments to run lotteries. Its continued success is attributed to its transparent operations, regular draws, and the significant revenue it generates for the state's welfare programs.
