Official Action and Suspensions. In response to the public backlash and internal reports, the Ministry of Railways took swift action. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw acknowledged the lapse and confirmed that a new, suitable train was promptly arranged to transport the BSF jawans. Four officials from the Northeast Frontier Railway’s Alipurduar Division including the Coaching Depot Officer and three Senior Section Engineers were suspended immediately. The Railways also initiated a detailed inquiry to determine how a train scheduled for repairs was mistakenly used for active duty. Broader Context and Political Fallout. This incident occurred during a large scale mobilization of over 52,000 Central Armed Police Forces, including 581 companies, for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra scheduled from July 3 to August 9, 2025. The event drew political attention, with the Congress party accusing the government of prioritizing public optics over the welfare of frontline personnel. The Northeast Frontier Railway later stated that the coach was not intended for deployment and was meant to undergo maintenance, but failed to prevent the error before dispatch. Follow-up Measures and Assurance. Railway officials stressed that the dignity and comfort of security forces are non-negotiable. A second special train was quickly arranged, departing from Agartala and passing through Udaipur, Silchar, and Guwahati, ensuring a safe and clean journey for the BSF personnel. The ongoing inquiry will likely result in revised procedures and stricter checks to prevent similar incidents in the future. The Ministry of Railways has reiterated its commitment to maintaining operational and service standards, especially for critical national deployments.
