The Journey Begins: Why They Traveled to Iran? Three Indian nationals from Punjab — Hushanpreet Singh (Sangrur), Jaspal Singh (SBS Nagar), and Amritpal Singh (Hoshiarpur) — set out for Iran in the hope of pursuing a better life. Lured by promises from a travel agent based in Hoshiarpur, they were told that they would be assisted in reaching Australia. The agent had assured them that their stay in Iran would be brief, and they would be provided with accommodation in Tehran while awaiting further travel arrangements. However, once they arrived in Iran, their families lost all communication with them.
The Disappearance: What Happened to Them? Shortly after their arrival, the three men vanished without a trace. On May 1, 2025, Amritpal Singh reached out to his mother, mentioning that he and the other two were being held by kidnappers. He shared alarming details of their situation, claiming that the captors were demanding a ransom of ₹1 crore. To make matters worse, the men were filmed in a video, bound with yellow ropes and covered in injuries, with the captors threatening their lives if the ransom was not paid immediately.
Desperate Pleas for Help: How the Families Found Out? The families were left in shock and confusion as days went by without any updates. Amritpal Singh’s mother was the first to receive the distressing call from her son, and she quickly alerted the families of the other two men. Together, they tried to contact the travel agent, but their efforts were in vain. The agent himself became unreachable, intensifying the anxiety surrounding the situation.
The Embassy Steps In: Urgent Action Taken As the families continued their search for answers, they reached out to the Indian Embassy in Tehran for assistance. The Embassy responded promptly, acknowledging the gravity of the situation. In a statement, the Embassy said: "Family members of 3 Indian citizens have informed the Embassy of India that their relatives are missing after having travelled to Iran. The Embassy has strongly taken up this matter with the Iranian authorities, and requested that the missing Indians should be urgently traced and their safety should be ensured." As the days pass, the families remain in limbo, waiting for any news of their loved ones. The Embassy continues to update the families, while the government stresses the importance of caution when traveling to regions with unstable conditions.
