India’s New High-Speed Rail Link Launches, Cutting Mumbai-Pune Travel Time

India inaugurated its latest high-speed rail corridor between Mumbai and Pune on February 19, 2026, reducing travel time from three hours to just 90 minutes. The 150-kilometer route, equipped with state-of-the-art safety features, is part of the government’s plan to modernize rail infrastructure. According to PTI, the project cost approximately ₹25,000 crore and is expected to boost economic activity in the region. Officials highlighted that the service will run at speeds up to 320 km/h, making it one of the fastest in the country. This launch marks a significant milestone in India’s transportation sector modernization efforts.
